I never planned on becoming an Instacart shopper, and I definitely never planned on building an app for Instacart shoppers. But that's exactly where life took me. I've been shopping on Instacart since 2018 — over 5,000 batches at this point — and honestly, if you're a shopper reading this, you probably already know why the rest of this story happens.
When I started shopping, I didn't think much of it — grab batches, shop fast, deliver with a smile. Simple, right? But the more I shopped, the more I realized: we're working inside a system that's unpredictable, time-sensitive, and often unfair. And that's putting it nicely.
It didn't matter how early I woke up, how close I parked to the entrance, or how fast I accepted a batch — some days the screen felt completely dead. Other days, batches popped up but disappeared before I could even read the items. Then there were the times when I knew good batches had to exist, but somehow… they didn't show up for me.
That's when it clicked: It's not just about working harder. It's about working smarter. And that realization is what started everything.
The Moment Everything Broke
There was one morning that pushed me over the edge. I was sitting outside a busy store — one of those stores where you know the good batches always start early. I refreshed. And refreshed. And refreshed again.
My fingers were tired. My patience was gone. And meanwhile, I saw shoppers around me suddenly sprinting toward their cars because they just accepted "the good one."
What about me? Nothing. Dead screen.
That's when I realized the situation wasn't just frustrating — it was inefficient. Instacart's system isn't built with the shopper in mind. And while we can't fight the algorithm directly, we can improve how we interact with it.
It hit me like a slap in the face: If I wanted a better shopping experience, I'd have to build the tools myself.
What I Built First (And Got Wrong)
Most shoppers don't know this about me, but I have a tech background. Before I ever built anything of my own, I was a BatchFinder user myself — back when it was still called Avalon — just trying to find any edge I could like everyone else.
Eventually I decided to build my own. In 2022 I launched Insta Helper, and in 2024 I followed it with Batches.lol. Both worked. Both were also server-side — Insta Helper by using your Instacart login, Batches.lol by routing through a VPN — because at the time, that's how I thought a batch grabber had to work: something running on a server somewhere, reaching into Instacart's system on your behalf.
Here's the part I don't like admitting, but won't hide from: that approach is detectable, and over the years I ran those tools, a number of shoppers using them got their accounts deactivated. That's not a hypothetical risk I read about — I watched it happen to real people, some of whom depended on Instacart as their main income. I can't apologize enough for that. I helped some of them get back on their feet with new accounts, but I can't undo what happened, and I'm not going to pretend it didn't.
Why I Rebuilt From Scratch, Client-Side
Eventually I retired both Insta Helper and Batches.lol. Before building anything else, I asked myself a different question than "how do I make this faster" — I asked "what would it take to build something that genuinely can't get someone banned the way my old tools did?"
The answer was to get rid of the server and the VPN entirely. No login credentials leaving your phone. No token. No middleman between you and Instacart — just your own device, reading what's already on your own screen, and tapping what you told it to tap. That's Batch Grab.

Everything happens on your own device, not on infrastructure I control — this isn't a policy I adopted for marketing, it's the direct result of watching the alternative go wrong.
